Daily COVID-19 cases in Sydney expected to surpass 2,000, Australia ramps up vaccinations

Sydney has become the epicenter of Australia′s biggest COVID-19 outbreak and the daily cases there are anticipated to peak next week, stated authorities. 

The authorities are looking at ramping up vaccinations before easing lockdown restrictions. New South Wales Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, stated that the government′s modelling suggests that the state would need the highest number of intensive care beds in early October, and there will be added pressure on the system in the coming few weeks. Daily infections in Sydney′s worst-hit suburbs are expected to increase to around 2,000 until the mid of September, revealed the modelling. New South Wales hospitals have 1,071 COVID-19 cases at present, with 177 in intensive care (ICU); 67 of these need ventilation. The state recorded 1,281 new infections on Monday, most of them in Sydney, and 5 new deaths… (Reuters, September 6, 2021)
